Atlanta rapper JID released his first album since 2018, and it was most definitely worth the wait.
'The Forever Story', the successor of his 2017 project called 'The Never Story', is a beautifully smooth, funky, hard listen with perfect spot-on production and gorgeous vocal harmonies.
"Raydar" is an incredibly hard-hitting track, with deep 808s and skippy high hats, with JID's flow perfectly subtle yet assaulting.
"Crack Sandwich" is my favorite on the album. JID perfectly paints the picture of his upbringing with lyrics like "Seven cracked head bad kids in a Caravan" and "I was seventeen swinging on any and everything". An emotional yet head-bopping track, "Crack Sandwich" is the poster boy of the album in my opinion.
"Can't Punk Me" is a wonderful hype song that JID decided to throw in the mix, showcasing what happens when you have JID and EARTHGANG make a song together.
"Surround Sound" is another one of my favorites, with 21 Savage with another unmissed feature. JID's flow on this is also one of the best showcases of his rapping ability I've heard yet.
"Sistanem" is a deep track about JID's hard past and trouble around his relationship with his sister, with JID's storytelling strongly showing through his words and tone. The vocals during "Mommies, daughters, martyrs, callers" are beautifully mixed as well.
The way the album closes out is great. JID goes in hard once last time on "Lauder Too" with the track ending with incredible eargasmic vocal harmonies.
Besides a few forgettable tracks, 'The Forever Story' is one of JID's best projects yet.
