6.9/10
Flyying Colours, a smaller shoegaze band from Melbourne, Australia, have come out with a new album following their self-titled release in 2022. Although they show good moments on this album, at times it is a drag to listen to.
"Do You Feel The Same? " was the stand-out track to me due to its lively guitar and drums that act as a perfect base for the fast-paced head-bobbing beat. "I Live in a Small Town" was also a solid listen, with wonderful use of vocal manipulation and drums that mesh well with the guitar. Lastly, "Bright Lights" was another stand-out due to its solid bright synths throughout the solid the track and slight roughness the guitar contained.
Other than these three tracks, the album was fairly snoozy. There were glimmers of hope on tracks like "Hit The Road" with its nice riffs, and the opening track "Lost Then Found" with its solid combination of synths and guitar (but awfully buried vocals), but besides this, it felt like a drag to listen to. The instrumentals may be fine, but it's nothing stunning and at times is one-dimensional. This is shoegaze in its sleepiest form; I would've loved to see more character and soul. This was my first listening experience with Flyying Colours, so I might give their other albums a spin to see what else they can offer.
